Continuing Education & Training
Master Gardeners have numerous opportunities to sharpen their skills and knowledge of gardening. They are expected to spend at least 20 hours a year in some form of educational experience. Many spend much more time than that. Here is a listing of some of the ways the members can grow their knowledge base:
Travel time is not counted for either learning or working hours.
- Attending "Advanced" Master Gardener Training -A continuation of classroom training provided by a county on a specific topic. It is available to Master Gardeners who have been in good standing for 3 years.
- Attending classes on horticultural subjects, seminars or BCMG meetings (the program portion of monthly meetings)
- Attending seminars and tours at annual State MG Conventions and biennial Regional or International MG Conferences
- Reading horticultural books, magazines or literature.
- Researching for a project plant discussion or a newsletter article, using books or the internet, etc.
- Watching TV programs related to horticulture. Hours earned in this manner are limited.
- Going on garden tours or wildflower walks. Visiting Botanical Gardens
