BUDDY MESSAGES |
A planning meeting for the upcoming seminar will be held on Friday, January 12 starting at 1 pm. We will be meeting at the Baxter County Library in Knox Room B.
You do NOT need to be a member of the committee to attend. We would love to have all interested parties join us. With a new site this year, there will be plenty to do to get ready for the event. Hope to see y'all there Carol WIlson Marcia Taylor Jane Druff Ceil Gasiecki I am attaching minutes from our December 1 meeting. I apologize for the delay, but we've had a major change of events.
On Monday, December 5, we received an email from the Methodist Church, site for our seminar, advising they made an error. They have a ten year contract with the County as a site for the primary election, which is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, 2024. Those folks need the gym and the hallway for the time we need. They offered us the use of the Fellowship Hall only, or the option of moving our event to March 9. Our keynote speaker, Colston Burrell, is unavailable on March 9, and the Felloship Hall does not provide enjoy space.. We all scrambled for an alternate site, which is difficult as there are not many sites large enough. Marcia Taylor worked with Stone Creek Ranch as an alternate site, and Jane, Judy Niziolek and I joined her out there for a tour. This site could work, but there were several hurdles we'd have to overcome to make it work. We also visited First Baptist Church, and are very pleased to announce our seminar will be held there Marcia Taylor, Kathrine & Rod Gilmore, Judy Niziolek and I visited this facility, and we are all very pleased that we have an excellent site for our seminar. We will be in one room for both the presentations and lunch, with a separate room for our Opportunity Table and Book Sales. However, we are still bound to have a silent auction rather than a raffle. The kitchen is ample for our needs. We have a capacity for 288 attendees. Cost will be $1,000 for the facility, and $100 for our A/V expert, so we've saved a few dollars there. However, we've postponed the online registration launch until January 8. The folks in Little Rock are not available between now and January 1 to make the changes we need so we're on hold for a bit. This site has the potential to be our new venue for the future, so I ask all of you, as we move through the planning and the actual event, to look at it and decide if we prefer to stay here in the future. Being a new site, we do have some logistics to work out, all manageable issues. We'll schedule a meeting for mid-January to review all of this. Again, a special thanks to Marcia Taylor who worked very hard to find a suitable site for us, as well as Jane Druff, Carol Wilson, Judy Niziolek, and Kathrine & Rod Gilmore who helped solved this problem. The minutes might seem a bit outdated given all that's happened in the last 10 days, but I am optimistic that we are on are on the right track. Now let's all enjoy the holidays! Merry Christmas, and may you and your families have a Blessed New Year. Take care. Ceil We are having a planning meeting for the 2024 seminar on Friday, December 1 at 1 pm at the library.
If you are curious to what goes into putting the seminar together, come join us. All are welcome. Jane Druff Marcia Taylor Carol WIlson Ceil Gasiecki Hi All,
Mr. Smile is all ready for Christmas with his red antlers and big red nose. I want to thank one of my Facebook followers for suggesting a reindeer..... I hope you like it. The Extension Garden and the Baxter County Master Gardeners wish everyone a very “Merry Christmas and Happy Holiday”. Garden is located on Highway 62B and 9th Street in Mountain Home. Drive by and take a look. Keep checking our Facebook page for new faces (themes) starting in January of 2024. Cheers, Judy Niziolek Wednesday, November 15th was graduation day for our three new Master Gardeners-Class of 2023. We had a great photo op by Mr. Smile at the Extension Garden. Picture left to right, Roxy Koop, Kathy Barrett, Mr. Smile, and Lois Curle.
Please welcome them into our organization when you see them at our activities and meetings. Congratulation to all of you for finishing the class. See photo. Cheers, Judy Niziolek-Mentoring Chair Hello all,
As some of you know, this most recent class of new members got an updated book instead of the old training manual in the binder that most of you received when you became Master Gardeners. If you’d like to get one of these updated books, let me know. The cost is $50. The deadline to order is Nov. 30th. You don’t have to pay the $50 right away. For now, I just need a list of names, so I’ll know how many books to order. Of course, you’re welcome to pay right away. Contact the office at 870-425-2335 to get on the list or come by at 3 East 9th St. in Mtn. Home. Regards, Brad Runsick Baxter County Extension Agent Staff Chair (870) 425-2335 3 East 9th St. Mountain Home, AR 72653 facebook.com/baxtercountyag First, many thanks to all of you for your help for our next seminar. Your support is greatly appreciated.
And sincere appreciation to Penny Wells and Janelle Stookey for stepping up to handle the Opportunity Table. And to Brenda Tamashiro for all she's done to support our event. We are sorry to see Brenda moving out of state, and appreciate the time she is making to bring Penny & Janelle up-to-date. We are grateful to all of you. Our next planning meeting is scheduled for Friday, December 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm in Knox Room B at the Baxter County Library. If you can't make it and have something to present to the committee, please give Ceil anything that needs to be presented to the group on your behalf. If I've missed someone or you know a MG who is interested in participating, by all means encourage them to attend. This meeting is open to all Master Gardeners, even if you'd just like to see what goes into the planning for the event. We will have some Marion County Master Gardeners joining us. Hope to see y'all on the First of December. In the meantime, best wishes to all for a great and Happy Thanksgiving!!!! Jane Druff Marcia Taylor Carol Wilson Ceil Gasiecki First of all, many thanks to Susan Chamberlain, who did clean up at the gardens in October all by herself. Thumbs up to her!!!!
Our next PED is set for Thursday, November 16, 2023 at 9:00 am. Our mission is to clean up for the season. And many thanks to all who have worked at Memorial Gardens. We changed the look of the gardens this year. This is a major accomplishment, and we want to thank everyone who helped us to our goals for the renovation. The gardens have a new look, and I hope y'all will enjoy it as much as we do. THANKS!!! Susan Chamberlain Mary Smith Ceil Gasiecki Hi All,
Mr. Smile is all decorated for Thanksgiving with his brown, yellow, and orange turkey feathers, and his skinny little legs (no drumsticks here). We are hoping everyone will “give thanks” for what we have in their own way. The Garden is located in Mountain Home on Highway 62B and 9th Street. Drive by and take a look. I am currently planning to have some new themes in 2024. In January I will be focusing on a great group of men and women in Mountain Home. Make sure you keep following me on Facebook. Cheers, Judy Niziolek Good morning, I was contacted by a gentleman who lives out toward Buford who said he had three compost tumblers that he’d just like to be rid of if someone would just come pick them up. He also said that he had the replacement sheet metal for the outer covering. If anyone is interested, his name is Ed Weliver (pronounced “Well-uh-ver” I believe). His phone number is 870-425-4136. I told him that I’d send it out to our MG group, so he may be expecting the phone call. Brad Runsick Baxter County Extension Agent Staff Chair (870) 425-2335 3 East 9th St. Mountain Home, AR 72653 facebook.com/baxtercountyag Hi, All
What a beautiful morning we had working at the Extension Garden on Wed. Nov. 8th. We cleaned up all the dead stuff and made the garden already for fall and winter. This will be our last PED.until Spring and I wan to thank Margareta Schutzler and Judy Brieske for their help today. We actually had a Monarch butterfly land on the Pin Cushion Plant which is still blooming. The Burning Bushes are really beautiful this year as well (see picture). I want to thank once again Kathy Gilmore, Judy Brieske, Margareta Schutzler, Joanie Quint, Ralph Edge, Corrine Caroselli, and Betsy Durham for all their help during this year. The garden would not look as nice as it does without all your help. I hope to see you all next year. Cheers, Judy Niziolek 870-424-2069 bandj65@suddenlnk.net Please join us for our last work day at Bull Shoals State Park, Monday, November 13 at 10 AM. We will meet at the spring to dead head and clean up for winter.
Afterwards will have a pot luck lunch at my house, down River Road. We have had a great team of Master Gardeners this year. We have worked hard, made some changes and learned a few new things. We have enjoyed our time working by the White River and watching the people and the boats and dogs! We even watch a few trees! We hope you will join us next week. Or, make a plan to come work with us next spring! Jo Strickland Jomontine@aol.com We'll aim for a final clean up day at Cooper Park Cabins on Monday, November 13th from 9 to 11.
understand the Maximillian Sunflowers need to be cut back and possibly we could spread more mulch. I have some lovely Passion Flower pods (Maypops!) we can tuck in by the trellis and see if we can get that started again for next spring. Hope to see you there. Janelle This Thursday November 9, 2023 is our monthly Membership meeting. Our program presenter will be Donna Baum, from Kelley Thomas Nursery and Landscape. Her topic is " Going through the Season".
Judy Niziolek will have her camera ready to capture your smile for your updated photo for the roster. Bring a snack to share. See you at 1pm. Carol Wilson Does anyone by chance know what this nut is? At first glance it looks like a giant pecan, but the actual nut looks like a huge shagbark hickory. I will do some research on the internet aswell. The tree it came off of is 80-100' tall and 10-15' wide and the leaves resembles the walnut family. Thank you for any help you can provide.

What a beautiful day we had for our Class of 2023 “Garden Tour.” A big thanks to Penny Wells for planning the tour and keeping us on track. We were able to see all 8 of the gardens and be back at the Extension Office by 1:00 pm. Also a thank you to the project leaders, Jon, Susan ,Darrell, Pricilla, Jo, (Penny and Mary were on the tour with me). They gave the new members a great description about how their gardens operate and are maintained through out the year. Picture of the 4 new members and some garden pictures attached. Sorry I could not include all of them. Cheers, Judy Niziolek- Mentoring Chair. Hi All,
What a great morning we had at the Extension Garden PED on Wednesday, October 11th. Big thanks go to Margareta Schmutzler, Betsy Durham, Joanie Quint and Ralph Edge for making the garden look beautiful. We are all ready for the new member garden tour Wednesday, October 18th. We did some weeding, weed whacking and cut back all of the Iris and Black–eyed Susan’s in the garden. During our break we discussed some garden tips about planting Cannas from seed. Ralph also shared some information and tips he learned from an advanced training class that he attended. Still have flowers and butterflies in the garden. . . see pictures.
